Guatemala is a Central American country rich in culture, history and geography. It is home to volcanoes, Mayan ruins and lush rainforests. And the country's high-quality coffee market is a great example of all three.

Coffee is grown in 20 of Guatemala's 22 departments, with approximately 270,000 hectares planted to coffee, almost all of which (98%) is grown under shade. The country's production is almost exclusively Arabica and is most often prepared using the washed method, although natural and various semi-washed methods are growing in popularity, with increasing production of fine examples.

“La Brûlerie du Cantin selects for you a country, a region, a plantation and above all farmers who wish to improve the quality of their coffee, which allows them to be freer in their actions. »

Of the three non-volcanic regions, Huehuetenango is the highest and driest of the coffee-growing areas. Thanks to the dry, warm winds that blow down the mountains from the Tehuantepec plain in Mexico, the region is protected from frost, making it possible to grow Huehuetenango highland coffee at altitudes of up to 2,000 metres. These high altitudes and the relatively predictable climate make it possible to produce an exceptional speciality coffee.

The extreme remoteness of Huehuetenango forces virtually all producers to process their own coffee. Fortunately, the region has an almost infinite number of rivers and streams, so a mill can be placed almost anywhere. That's why our roasters chose this coffee specifically for its uniqueness.
