History of our Nyala
Before 2015 we had a Sidama Grade 2, then we moved on to a Sidama type A Q2 (83+). In 2020, the regulations gave us access to traceability information and the washing stations were able to export directly! Today we have not 1 but 3 NYALA coffees, washed and produced by 3 washing stations: Birbirsa Kojowa, Nibret Alamu and Nesembo organic.
BIRBIRSA KOJOWA
This washed Nyala coffee is produced in the Guji appellation, around 400 km south of Addis Ababa. It has pleasant fruity notes.
The coffee offered here comes from the Kercha district. It was harvested near the village of Birbirsa Kojowa and washed at the Birbirsa Kojowa station, which is run by the exporter Guji Coffee PLC.
The terroir of Kercha
The Kercha district is included in the Guji zone, which is made up of the other districts of : Odo Shakisso, Uraga, Hambela, Adola and Anassora.
This Nyala coffee is collected from small producers near the village of Birbirsa Kojowa, more than 400 km south of Addis Ababa. This fine traceability is remarkable for a coffee from the Terroir range and is made possible, among other things, by the sourcing work carried out by the Belco team in Ethiopia.
This coffee was washed at the village station, which is managed by Guji Coffee Export PLC. This group was set up in 2006 by Girma Edema. For a number of years, Guji Export has been working to add value to Ethiopian coffee by ensuring fine traceability and maintaining the quality of batches selected for international markets.
In the Guji area, the company works with over 1,000 small producers. It is committed to fostering an attractive working environment that will encourage the younger generations in the region to continue making coffee.
